Jimmy Calder
Quite simply, a legendary goalie! Everyone knows the story of how he once sat on the crossbar when he played for Thistle back in the Highland League. He was also known for running out of the penalty box, tackling attacking players and disposessing them, and for coming out to head the ball away(!) He gave everyone who watched him a few heart attacks in his time, but was a class act through and through, not to mention a complete character. Continuing well into his forties, he will be remembered for his tremendous ability, not to mention his many foibles. His finest hour was at Parkhead, where he kept Celtic at bay, helping us get that earth-shaking 3-1 win.
James Evan Calder: we salute you!
Iain Stewart
What can be said about "Sunbed" Stewart that hasn't already been said a thousand times before? Stewarty was simply amazing. He banged in goals left, right and centre: 20-yard screamers, tap-ins, but most especially his trademark chips. Goalkeepers quaked in their boots when they saw the pint-sized striker take to the field, as they knew that with him on the park, firing in shots every two minutes, they weren't going to have an easy time. Stewarty ended his Caley Thistle career in October 2000 as the club's former top scorer, having bagged 88 goals in 141 games, a record finally broken by Dennis Wyness in 2007.
Barry Wilson
Barry Wilson, Millennium Man, flying right winger, made a great name for himself during our chase for promotion to division 1 and our first season there. Barry could fly down the wing, zigzag in and out of defenders and put in the sweetest of crosses. He has also scored many beautiful goals. Who can forget his beautifully weighted volleys, or his 20-yard screamers? Barry's biggest moment undoubtedly came on February 8th 2000, when he scored the first goal to send us on our way to a vicotry against Celtic. Barry rarely scores with his head, and had in fact only scored the first headed goal of his CAREER against Livingston just over a month previously. But it was a fantastic header that he got that night, and will be remembered as one of Caley thistle's most important goals. He was also responsible for a fine penalty to put us in the lead against St. Johnstone on the last day of 2003/04 and send us on our way to the First Division championship. We lost Barry to Livvy in May 2000, which was heartbreaking, but he returned to play for us again in 2003 and was instrumental in our First Division Championship triumph and subsequent survival in the SPL. Unfortunately, his future now appears to be hanging in the balance due the club's inexplicable failure to offer him even so much as a coaching contract next season. Despite being apparently frozen out by "someone", Barry is, and always will be an ICT legend, and a real fans' player.
Denzil: a true legend.
Dennis Wyness
Dennis was originally a loan signing from Aberdeen in the autumn of 1999. Following his loan spell, Steve Paterson decided to sign him on a permanent basis and, after some wrangling, Dennis became a Caley Thistle player. During his first year at the club Dennis had a quiet time, hardly setting the heather ablaze. In the autumn of 2000, Paterson decided to transfer-list him. Suddenly the quiet, unassuming striker burst into life, scoring spectacular goals against Ross County, Ayr and Alloa. After a tremendous display against Ayr Utd on December 2nd 2000, when the team won 7-3 and Dennis scored a hat-trick, Paterson decided to take him off the transfer list. After that, Dennis never looked back. In three seasons he scored almost as many goals as record scorer Iain Stewart. He also scored important goals against Hearts in the Scottish Cup, and of course the goal that sent Celtic spinning out of the Cup in March 2003! Despite performing so many heroics and becoming one of the greatest players to grace the Caley stadium turf, Dennis has always remained quiet and unassuming, even sneaking out of a fire-door after the Celtic game to avoid the TV and Press cameras. An all-round legend and one of football's genuine nice guys, Dennis will always have a place in Caley Thistle fans' affections! After a spell at Hearts, Dennis returned to the club in 2005 and in 2007 overtook Iain Stewart's goalscoring record.
